What is Parent Coordination?
Parent coordination is not therapy. It is a conflict resolution approach to help divorcing couples resolve issues that are in the best interests of the children, related to their custody arrangement and divorce decree. We focus on solution based and concrete oriented problems that involve children’s activities and time with each parent. I do not alter the divorce decree, but find creative ways for parents who face challenges in implementing their parenting arrangements while keeping the children involved with both parents. The PC minimizes conflicts between parents and limit stress on the children. The PC also educates, mediates and monitors the relationships with parents and children, and makes recommendations as needed. As a licensed psychologist I am uniquely trained to help families and children due to my extensive background in working with children and understanding how to best help them grow and develop in a healthy manner as well as recuperate from trauma and stress as can often be the case in divorce. Usually a parent coordinator is agreed upon and assigned by consent via court order.
